Syria allows Egyptian goods to cross through to its lands to Iraq
Syria-Egypt, Economics, 8/10/1998

Syrian diplomatic sources said the Syrian authorities agreed to transporting Egyptian exports to Iraq through Syrian territory after the goods are shipped to a Syrian harbor.

The Egyptian Businessmen's Association sent a note to Isah Darweash, Syria's ambassador in Cairo, few weeks earlier, requesting that Syria permit Egyptian businessmen to shipping their exported goods to Iraq through Syrian harbors.

The note also included the approval of Egyptian Minister of Trade and Supply Ahmed Goweili for this proposal.

Syrian - Iraqi relations have improved considerably from prior years where the two where on opposite sides during the Gulf war. Most recently, the two countries approved further cooperation by having agreed on reactivating an oil pipeline that passes Iraqi oil through Syrian territories.
