Morocco develops new date palm tree resistant to mildew disease

Moroccan agronomists have managed to develop in vitro a new type of date palm tree capable of resisting mildew disease which affects palm trees and is widespread in Morocco and in the Maghreb.
The experiments conducted on the new variety showed a great resistance to Mildew, the Moroccan agronomist responsible for the project told the Moroccan news agency, Map. About 60,000 date palm trees grown in vitro will be distributed to farmers to enable them propagate the species, the same source added.
