Moroccan police dismantle international forgery gang
Morocco, Local, 8/10/1998
The Moroccan police have dismantled lately in Casablanca an international gang specializing in forging bank-notes, especially the Bahraini dinar, and car number plates.
Morocco's Al-Alam daily, which reported the news, said four Moroccans involved were handcuffed by the police while ten other persons of various nationalities are still wanted.
A police search at the suspects' homes led to the discovery and seizure of an automatic pistol, ammunition, a large amount of money including $137,000 U.S, 30,100 French francs and 217,000 dirhams. Two cars were also seized.
The gang was dismantled with coordination efforts between the Moroccan police and Interpol, which enabled them to tail an active member of the gang, a Moroccan called Hicham M.
The latter participated in leaking the forged 140 million Bahraini dinars in notes of 20 dinars in exchange operations in Middle Eastern and East European countries. Hicham, who was wanted by Interpol in France and Bahrain, was finally arrested, and his arrest led to the dismantling of the gang.
