Garang visits Cairo
Sudan-Egypt, Politics, 8/10/1998
The spokesman for the Sudanese Pepole's Liberation Army's delegation to Cairo, Pajam Akoum Oking, said that the visit of SPLA leader John Garang aims at strengthening relations between Garang's movement and Egyptian officials, pointing out that the program of the visit includes meetings with officials including Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa and Youssef Wali, the secretary-general of the national ruling party.
Akoum Oking, who participated in last week's Adiss Ababa peace negotiations with the Sudanese government, added that the movement's commitment to the cease-fire depends on the Sudanese government not carrying out military movements to enhance its military positions.
Meanwhile, the meetings of the leadership department for the Sudanese opposition will begin its works today, in which the head of the National Democratic Assembly, Mohamed Othman El-Mergani; the leader of the Nation's Party, El-Sadek El-Mahdi; the head of the Sudanese alliance forces, Brigadier General Abdul Aziz Khaled and other members of the opposition leadership will participate.
