Europe adds obstacles before Egyptian Potatoes
Egypt-European Union, Economics, 8/10/1998

A new dispute broke out between Egypt and the European Union around conditions for exporting potatoes.

Egypt opposed conditions specified by the European Union for exporting potatoes and directed a critical message to the European Union, delivered by the ambassador of Egypt.

The message said that the new European conditions are severe and contradict the Egyptian - European partnership agreement. The European Union established a condition of receiving a detailed list of basins, villages and areas free of rust disease, along adding other obstacles.

Sources in the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture confirmed Egypt's reply, to the European action, linking European enforcement to ongoing negotiations between them. Under current discussions, are the Egyptian - European partnership accords and the European tariffs to keep out Egyptian cotton.
