Libya awaits US and British position on Lockerbie

The Arab League confirmed that Libya has a tangible and a clear response toward the most recent developments in the US - Britain - Libya crisis.

Arab League spokesman Talat Hamed said that Libya is waiting for the U.S. and Britain to declare their official stances concerning their approval of trying the accused Lockerbie-Libyan suspects in a neutral country according to Scottish law.

Hamed said that two countries concerned with the crisis, can inform the Arab League's secretary general of their official positions, at which time the Arab League's secretary general will convey the response.

Hamed added "It is better that the two countries concerned with the crisis inform their new stances directly to Libya as it is the main party in the crisis, because this will help solving the crisis."

Arab League Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid paid a visit to Libya from August 2 - 6, during which he met with Libyan President Moammar Gaddafi and high-ranking Libyan officials to address developments in the Lockerbie crisis.

The US and Britain have stated that they have agreed to have the two Libyans, accused of involvement in a plane bombing over Lockerbie, tried in the Hague in the Netherlands after having insisted that the trial should be held in Scotland or the US. The details of the trial's related issues such as the composition of the Judges' nationalities and other issues have not been finalized and will be the subject of talks between the concerned parties.
