U.N. experts praise political alternation in Morocco
Morocco, Politics, 8/7/1998

Experts from the United Nations Committee for the elimination of racial discrimination in Geneva on Thursday praised political change in Morocco.

The experts, who were commenting on reports submitted by Morocco to the 53rd session of the Committee, commended the major progress achieved by Morocco towards human rights promotion.

The progress made by Morocco will enable it to emerge as a model for the countries of the region, they said.

The Committee's Rapporteur for Morocco, Regis de Gouttes, lauded Morocco's efforts to stand by the commitments made in the international convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination.

"Morocco embarked, gradually in the few past years, on an undertaking of reform, modernization, overture and consolidation of the rule of law," the expert said. "This evolution can only be backed and encouraged by our committee," he said.
