Postponing the approval for new Egyptian parties
Egypt, Politics, 8/7/1998
The political parties' department in the Egyptian Nation's Council decided to postpone contesting the decision of the Consultation Council's chairman, which would bar seven political parties from practicing their activities.
The Consultation Council, the authority that has the right to give permission for parties to be active, refused requests from five parties on the grounds that nothing distinguished their agenda from the other 14 parties that are already authorized to engage in politics.
The rejected parties include parties of Anwar Sadat's followers and of the so-called heroes of the October war.
