Emir of Qatar in Algeria

A round of official talks was held in Algiers on Wednesday between ruler of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khaleifa al-Thani and the Algerian President Liamine Zeroual.
Stress was laid on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and on Arab issues, foremost being the Middle East peace process and several Arab and international matters. Following the meeting, the two sides signed an agreement to avoid double taxation and another agreement on educational, and scientific cooperation between the two countries.
Ruler of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khaleifa al-Thani arrived in Algeria on Tuesday for a two-day official visit to Algeria at the invitation of Algerian President Liamine Zeroual. This is Sheikh Hamad's first visit to Algeria.
The Algerian news agency said the visit will "give momentum to cooperation between Algeria and Qatar, which has been increasingly strengthened in the two last years."
Meanwhile, the Algerian daily al-Khabar said that nine civil defense men were killed on Saturday near al-Bweira province, 100 km from the capital Algiers by armed attackers. No details were given about the incident. The paper noted that the nine people were shot dead.
Elsewhere, Minister of National Solidarity Rabia Musharzin said at the conclusion of a summer camp near the capital that "measures taken by the government to prevent children of terrorism victims from traveling abroad to spend their vacations aim at protecting the Algerian child from any "insult or bargaining."
She accused Algerian societies and other foreign circles odf organizing such trips of "bargaining Algerian children under a humanitarian cover." The Algerian authorities, and since the beginning of this Summer, prevented hundreds of children from traveling abroad, especially to France to spend their vacation, MENA reported.
