Prince Hassan to visit Israel
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 8/5/1998

Member of the Israeli Knesset Yossi Sarid and Jordanian Crown Prince Hassan have agreed that latter will visit Israel soon and take part in a peaceful march in Tel Aviv.

The Israeli daily Yedhiot Ahronot added yesterday that Crown Prince Hassan agreed to take part in a demonstration in which members of the Israeli Labor Party are taking part.

It will be held in Tel Aviv in support of what he called "peace attitudes." The paper added that prince Hassan will underline the importance of relations and cooperation existing between Jordan and Israel. The Israeli radio said.

Meanwhile, Jordan announced today that the Israeli Minister of Internal Security Avigdor Kahalani will arrive in Amman on Thursday in a visit during which he will meet with Crown Prince Hassan.

Israeli sources said the Jordanian and Israeli sides had during the two past days intensified contacts and bilateral meetings on top levels so as to strengthen relations and cooperation in the framework of bilateral normalization Israeli radio reported.

Sarid said he doubted that the Israeli government will carry out requirements of the second phase of redeployment of the Israeli army in the West Bank. He expected such a process to be beyond implementation at the current time.

On his visit to Jordan at the invitation of Jordan's Crown Prince Hassan, Sarid said, "This is not the first visit of its kind to Jordan," which he described as a friendly country to Israel. Sarid praised King Hussein and Crown Prince Hassan and described them as friends and of clear visions. Sarid noted Jordan's key role in the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian government.

Meanwhile, former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres said on Monday that a coalition government should be formed in Israel. It has to comprise all Israeli parties "which believe in peace," he said. In statements he made in al-Nassera city on Monday, Peres expressed hope to carry out the second phase of redeployment in the West Bank so as to move to the final stage talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Peres added that after the implementation of the second phase of redeployment, areas under the Palestinian authority control in the West Bank will be 40%. He added that negotiations for final settlement will center on 20%, Israeli radio reported.
