Lebanon-Syria, Culture, 8/5/1998
Islamic Charity Projects in south Lebanon on Monday held a mass rally in Tripoli. The rally aimed at marking the army day observed in both Syria and Lebanon on August 1.
Former Lebanese Premier Omar Karami said in a speech that the Syrian-Lebanese commitment to unity of the two peace tracks and to implementation of UN resolutions providing for Israel's total withdrawal from south Lebanon's western Bekaa and the Syrian Golan Heights.
Karami referred to the two countries' cooperation in confrontation of the Israeli aggressions against Lebanon and in supporting the Lebanese resistance. He stressed: "No peace without Syria and Lebanon and the two brothers cannot bargain on Arab rights."
The Lebanese health minister said in his speech that Army Day is a common festivity with mutual aspirations of the Syrians and the Lebanese for liberation, sovereignty and for the establishment of just and comprehensive peace. "Lebanon was, after wars and conflicts, unable to build its national army without Syria's help," the Lebanese minister said.
He stressed the inseparability of the two countries' tracks and said that the most important national duty is to liberate south Lebanon and the western Bekaa from Israeli occupation.
