Qatari emir in Algeria today deals with regional issues
Qatar-Algeria, Politics, 8/4/1998

Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad Ben Khalifa al-Thani is heading today to Algeria for the first time for a Gulf ruler since the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990.

Sheikh Hamad will discuss with Algerian President Liamine Zeroual many issues topped by the aggravated situation in Algeria due to the escalation of violence, the economic situation, the tense relations between Algeria, Sudan and Iran, the file of the Qatari - Algerian relations and the current issues in the Arab countries.

Sources close to the Qatari ruler told ArabicNews.com that Sheikh Hamad will pay special concern to the crisis between Algeria, Sudan and Iran, as he previously tackled this issue with Sudanese officials during his participation in the celebrations of the government's anniversary last June.

It is expected that the visit will result in signing investment and economic agreements between the two countries to support the Algerian economy during its crisis because of extremism and terrorism.
