UN delegation ends work today in Algeria
Algeria, Politics, 8/4/1998
The United Nations fact-finding committee concluded its meetings today in Algeria and will now deliver a report to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, detailing the information gathered by the committee concerning terrorism in Algeria.
The delegation will head to Lisbon where the delegation's leader, former Portugese President Mario Soares, will likely give a preliminary report to Annan on Thursday, a spokesman for Annan, Juan Carlos Brandt, said.
Sources close to the committee members told ArabicNews.com that the delegation's report will place the responsibility for terrorist operations in Algeria on the Islamic Salvation Front.
Soares said that his meetings revealed points of view both for and against the Algerian authorities.
The delegation toured Algerian cities, where it was able to make its inquires, therefore the report will be comprehensive. UN spokesman Hassan Fodha said the group appreciated the "cooperation it has received from all concerned"
