Syrian PNF reviews Middle East developments
Syria, Politics, 8/3/1998

The Syrian Progressive National Front (ruling party) on Sunday held a meeting chaired by the organization's vice-president, Muhammad Zuheir Masharqa.

The Syrian Premier Mahmoud al-Zou'bi presented an assessment of Syria's economic conditions, focusing on mineral resources and the agricultural sector, while Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa spoke about current political conditions on the Arab, regional and international levels.

The PNF reviewed the latest political developments and the Israeli government's policy toward the peace process that they termed as contradicting the bases and principles of Madrid Conference and constitutes a provocation to the Arab states.

The PNF spoke of France, together with the European Union, as qualified to play an active and effect role which would complement the US role for the establishment of the hoped-for peace in the region. The PNF said that developing Syrian - French and European relations realizes the mutual interests which control the relations among states.
