German prize for Algerian journalist

The German organization Frederich Ibert announced that it is granting its prize for human rights in 1998 to Algerian journalist Omar Bel Hoshat, chief editor and publisher of the Algerian daily newspaper al-Watan.
Bel Hoshat received his prize at a reception in the German city Koln. The prize was given to Bel Hoshat in appreciation, for the courage of the independent press and defending his profession agaisnt the current violence in Algeria.
