Abdul Meguid briefs UN delegation on regional issues
Regional-UN, Politics, 7/30/1998

Arab League [AL] Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid informed a United Nations delegation of AL's position toward the current events in the Middle East including developments in the peace process.

After meetings with the delegation at Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Abdul Meguid said that he tackled all topics.

Answering a question regarding the communications made by the Arab League concerning the peace process and the AL's perception of the presidential statement issued by the UN Security Council concerning the Israeli expansion of Jerusalem, Abdul Meguid said, "This statement is very important. We were hoping for issuing a resolution, but we know that the process of issuing resolutions in the United Nations is difficult."

He stated that the Arab League considers it a step in the right direction and he said, "We are encouraging such diplomatic moves."
