King Hussein talks with Netanyahu from Mayo clinic
Jordan, Politics, 7/30/1998

King Hussein of Jordan on Wednesday night made a telephone call to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss developments pertaining to recent meetings between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Meanwhile King Hussein who on Tuesday from Mayo Clinic in the US announced his lymphoma cancer, on Wednesday exchanged greetings and good wishes with citizens of Maan city, in southern Jordan, via Crown Prince Hassan Bin Talal.

Following a long visit Prince Hassan made to the city, he phoned his elder brother in the hospital and conveyed to him the "greetings and love of the people of Maan." The King "sent his best wishes for the people of Maan and pride in all members of the Jordanian family." A statement released by the Jordanian royal court said that the crown prince, who monitors the country's affairs since the King was admitted to hospital two week earlier, briefed his brother on the dialogue he held with the people of the province, representatives of its officials and people's representatives.

Prince Hassan told the people of Maan who witnessed acts of violence during August 1996 that extended to other three southern Jordanian cities in objection to increasing bread prices: "We have to prove we are worthy of the confidence entrusted in us by the homeland and shoulder our responsibility in maintaining a constructive dialogue."
