Arab states to form national committee for fighting terrorism
Regional, Politics, 7/29/1998

The first Arab conference for officials in charge of fighting terrorism has legitimized people's armed struggle to liberate their territories and restore independence and self-determination.

The conferees, who concluded their deliberations on Tuesday night in the Tunisian capital, submitted their recommendations to the general secretariat of the council of Arab ministers of the interior. They recommended setting up a national committee to fight terrorism, study its causes and work for eliminating this phenomenon.

The conferees called for reactivating an Arab strategy to fight terrorism. This can be through organizing meetings with ministerial councils working within the Arab League and with relevant Arab and international bodies.

The general secretariat will submit its recommendations to the forthcoming meetings of the council of the ministers of the interior to be held by the end of January 1999.
