Washington notifies stand on Lockerbie issue to Arab League
Libya-Regional, Politics, 7/29/1998
The United States officially notified the Arab League on Tuesday that the trial of two Libyans accused in the 1988 plane bombing over Lockerbie may be held by a Scottish court in a neutral country.
This came during a meeting between the AL Secretary General, Esmat Abdel Meguid, and the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt, Daniel Kurtzer.
Kuwaiti news agency "KUNA" quoted the U.S. Ambassador as telling journalists that he would hold further talks with Abdel Meguid on the U.S. position.
Abdel Meguid described the U.S. stance as a positive shift that should be encouraged in order to solve the protracted Lockerbie issue, Map reported.
