Sudan accuses Eritrea of planning military attack
Sudan, Politics, 7/29/1998
Sudan accused Eritrea of planning to launch a military attack in Sudanese territories by conspiring with rebel forces.
Sudanese military sources announced that the military leadership observed Eritrean military buildups on the eastern borders of Sudan, and the source emphasized that the Sudanese armed forces are ready to confront any attack.
Moreover the sources confirmed that the Sudanese army was able to repulse attacks by some "traitors" and the country's "enemies" in southern Blue Nile state during the last two days.
On the other hand, Carol Bellamy, the head of United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) admitted that rescue operations by the international organizations are not enough in Sudan.
In this context the World Food Program has urged the international community to donate about 52,000 tons of emergency food in order to meet the need for food in the famine-stricken Sudanese south within the coming months. The World Food Program's food drops in Sudan are the largest in the program's history.
