Jordan, People, 7/29/1998
During a 12-minute satellite interview on Jordanian official television, Jordan's King Hussein Bin Talal stressed that his "health is excellent and morale is very high."
He stated that the first stage of his medical treatment was completed on Monday and proved that he has "a curable Lymphoma cancer of 'B' type." The King said that his doctors told him "this type of cancer is completely curable." He added that he has so far completed the first session of chemotherapy, and he has to undergo five other sessions in the next three weeks.
He stressed that his temperature "restored normalcy" and that his body responds to the therapy in " a very good way."
"I feel I am in a much better condition. I have iron morale. What only concerns me is the yearning for the homeland. However, if any Jordanian needs me I am ready to get the plane and come back to Jordan," he said.
The Jordanian King 63, described his illness as "a new battle among the numerous battles I have launched throughout my life-span. I am determined to win."
A report from the Mayo Clinic where the King is being treated says that the King will be given special therapy to increase the number of white cells in his blood and to prevent infections. It added that antibiotics will be used to prevent any infections that may happen during treatment.
