New Israeli-Jordanian tourism project
Jordan-Israel, Economics, 7/28/1998

Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Aqel Beltaji has announced that the Jordanian government approved the establishment of an Israeli-Jordanian tourism project at a cost of US $400 million between Aqaba and Eilat cities.

Beltaji told the Jordanian daily "al-Arab al-Youm that the project, which is names "The Greater Oasis, " comprises two floating ships and hotels connected to a joint resort area between Eilat and Aqaba.

The Jordanian minister expected the project to be completed by the year 2002. Beltaji added that he had met with the director of the project's US sponsored company, known as America's Partners and documents pertaining to the project were submitted to al-Aqaba district authority for study.

On Sunday the Israeli economic paper "Arena" said that the Jordanian government has principally approved the establishment of the "Greater Oasis" project.
