Lebanese premier confers with senior Syrian officials
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 7/28/1998

Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri on Monday concluded a new round of consultations with Syrian Vice-President Abdul Halim Khaddam and high-ranking Syrian officials.

Orient radio's correspondent in Damascus quoted well-informed sources as saying that al-Hariri's talks and consultations in Damascus, in which Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa took part dealt with the latest developments on the bilateral, Arab and international levels. Talks also dealt with results of recent contacts made by the two countries with various capitals concerned with developments and conditions in the region, in light of the visits made by President Hafez al-Assad to Paris and Cairo.

The sources added that President al-Assad's forthcoming expected visit to Lebanon occupied some of Hariri consultations in Damascus in the context of the great interest this historic visit has garnered.

Hariri returned to Beirut in the same day.
