No Scottish judges in Lockerbie case is false, says Libya
Libya, Politics, 7/28/1998
Libya denied news reported by British weekly "The Observer" that it would refuse an all-Scottish judge panel for the two Libyans suspected of being behind the Lockerbie bombing.
A spokesman for the Libyan Foreign Ministry "castigated" the information of "The Observer" which cited the name of the Libyan leader in what it called a Libyan answer to the US and British plans.
"Libya does not have to react because, Britain and the USA have not officially made public their stand on the trial of the two suspects in this affair," said the Libyan source.
The Observer reported that Libya said it will "never accept" Britain and American plans to try the two suspects in the Netherlands by an all-Scottish judge team.
The Observer newspaper also said that London and Washington insist that Libya must surrender the two men to a court of five Scottish judges.
It quoted "a senior figure" close to the Libyan regime as saying that Scottish judges "lack cultural objectivity."
