Arab meeting to review international criminal court basis
Regional, Politics, 7/28/1998
Ambassador Sayed Kassem El-Masri, the Egyptian foreign minister's political advisor, announced that the Arab states will hold a coordination meeting at Arab League headquarters on the margin of the Arab states' foreign ministers' 110th session in September to discuss the basic system for establishing the international criminal court.
160 countries all over the world have signed final convention for its establishment in Rome during the first half of this month.
El-Masri also said that the Arab states have not approved this court's fundamental system, despite the approval of the majority from the Arab states and the non-aligned countries and its vote for the case of this establishment convention.
He added that this Arab meeting comes before the beginning of the preliminary committee's meetings emerging from the Rome conference which is to be held before the end of this year to agree upon basic crimes with which the court is concerned beside setting up a draft agreement for the relationship between the court and the UN.
