Yemeni, Saudi FMs agree on settling disputes

The visit of Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdul Qader Bajmal to Saudi Arabia on Saturday has yielded an accord based on principles to resolve a dispute for the border conflict between the two states.

The Saudi news agency quoted the Yemeni Foreign Minister as saying in Jeddah, "We have agreed on the main points which will be the grounds from which we will move." He indicated that the joint committees established in 1995 for border demarcation between the two states will implement the agreed-upon principles.

Similar statements were made by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal when he said the two sides "held unanimous stances that what happened should not be repeated. It will not. It was an embarrassing matter."

The Yemeni minister also held talks to settle the disputes with the Saudi crown prince, deputy Premier prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz.

Meanwhile, a Gulf diplomatic source said that the Saudi FM briefed his United Arab Emirates counterpart Rashid Abdullah al-Nueimi on his Saturday talks with the Yemeni foreign minister during the meeting between Prince Saud al-Faisal and the UAE minister, who arrived in Jeddah on Sunday carrying a message from UAE President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nahyan to the Saudi crown prince.

An official at the Yemeni Foreign Ministry said today that Prince Saud al-Faisal will pay a short visit tomorrow to the Yemeni Republic.

The Yemeni official was quoted as saying that the Saudi FM will hold talks during his visit with Yemeni officials on bilateral relations.
