2.8 million Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip

Palestinian statistics said on Sunday that the population of the West Bank and Gaza Strip reached some 2.89 million, according to the recent census carried out by the Palestinian government in 1997.
The census found that the West Bank population was 1.87 million, the population of the Gaza Strip was 1.21 million and the population of East Jerusalem was 324,000.
The Palestinian statistical department said that unemployment in the West Bank and Gaza Strip is estimated at 21%.
