Egypt criticizes US congressman
Egypt-USA, Politics, 7/27/1998
The Egyptian minister of endowments, Mohamoud Zakzouk, described reports that the Egyptian Copts are exposed to prosecution as being unfair allegations that aim at damaging Egypt's reputation abroad.
The minister criticized the statements of US legislator Frank Wolf which targeted Egypt's officials and government.
Wolf visited Cairo last month and met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and some Egyptian Copts who denied any persecution and stated opposition to interference in their internal affairs.
Zakzouk added, "There is nothing. Egyptian nation is one, comprising Moslems and Copts, all of whom have lived together in this country for 14 centuries."
