Three people killed as Israeli heavy artillery targets Lebanese villages

The Israeli occupation forces on Saturday shelled with heavy artillery the outskirts of Majdal Zoun town in the western sector of south Lebanon. News reports from south Lebanon said the enemy artillery bombardment coincided with machine gun shots targeting valleys and roads leading to Majdal Zoun and al-Mansouri districts.

Lebanese security sources said an explosion took place Friday night near a house in Arnoun town in al-Nabatieh district. Three people were killed. Reports from south Lebanon said when Lebanese citizens and security forces headed towards the explosion site, Israeli troops opened fire from their nearby positions.

In the afternoon, the Israeli forces continued attackss against areas adjacent to the occupied zone of south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said the occupation troops shelled with 155 mm heavy artillery Aqmata farm and Lweiseh town areas in al-Tuffah district.

On Saturday itizens of Lweiseh appealed for the International committee for the Red Cross and the April Understanding Committee to have permits from the Israeli occupation forces to allow Lebanon's electricity maintenance technical teams to repair damage to electricity installations that resulted from the Israeli bombardment against the town. The bombardment cut off electricity and damaged in the water pumping station.

Later in the evening the Israeli troops renewed attacks against areas adjacent to the occupied strip of south Lebanon, particularly the hills of al-Tuffah district and the west sector. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli artillery positions in the hill of Mhebeib attacked Kafra town, al-Butoum and Yater mountains, Litani river area, al-Hamra farm, Farroun and Ghandouriyah from al-Zaffata position.

Israeli artillery also shelled the towns of Maletta and Lweiseh in al-Tuffah district.

Israeli troops on Saturday barred citizens and Lebanese internal security forces from reaching the area of Arnoun town adjacent to occupied part of south Lebanon.
