Sudan, Military, 7/25/1998
A Sudanese official warned of movements and coordination operations currently taking place between Ugandan forces and fighters from the Sudanese People's Liberation Army to prepare for a new attack in south Sudan aimed at Juba and other cities in the south, as well as at Ugandan opposition sites in the border region between the two countries.
The Sudanese official said that Uganda's defense minister is personally supervising the operation, adding that SPLA forces headed by Colonel John Garang and Ugandan forces are currently gathering in the border regions of Fargouk, Flutaka and Nikomouli and Bei, 100 miles away from Juba.
In press statements to ArabicNews.com, the official said that Garang recently presented requests to foreign governments for advanced military equipment, especially anti-aircraft artillery, to be able to dominate the airspace in the tropical provinces.
