Syrian - Egyptian summit in Cairo expected within the coming days
Regional, Politics, 7/24/1998

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Syrian President Hafez Al-Assad agreed to convene a bilateral summit in Cairo within the coming days. Syrian diplomatic sources expected that the summit will be held during the coming week after Egypt's celebrations of the July 23, 1952 revolution.

President Mubarak received a phone call the day on Wednesday evening from Syrian President Hafez al-Assad in which they discussed recent developments in the peace process within the context of the talks held recently by al-Assad in France and the communications held by Cairo with Washington within the Egyptian - American strategic dialogue.

Meanwhile, Syrian diplomatic sources denied the existence of Egyptian - Syrian disputes concerning the convening of the summit, asserting that the two sides have agreed upon the necessity of good preparatory work.

The sources added that the Egyptian - Syrian summit will work on straightening the peace process within the context of the two sides' communication.
