Jordanians frustrated over Wadi Araba agreement
Jordan, Politics, 7/24/1998

The British daily The Times stated that Jordanians in general feel frustrated over the results yielded by the Wadi Araba agreement signed between the Jordanian and Israeli governments.

The paper added that Jordan, "strategically located but resource-starved," had not seen improved economic conditions from signing the Wadi Araba accord with Israel.

In the same context, Israeli army radio on Thursday commented on the message King Hussein sent to his brother, Crown Prince Hassan, on the former being infected with Lymphoma cancer, saying the message was intended to ease the concern in Jordan prevailing at the meantime.

The radio commentary added that the hopes of Jordanians, who have been under Hussein monarch since 46 years, to enjoy prosperity have been demolished following the deteriorated economic conditions, especially after the Wadi Araba accords. The Israeli radio commentary noted that the message of King Hussein to Crown Prince Hassan contained no indication that Hassan will assume the leadership of the country.

King Hussein will be staying at the Mayo clinic undergoing Chemotherapy for the next three weeks for his Lymphoma cancer.
