Tel Aviv Mayor: Netanyahu responsible for death of ME peace
Israel, Politics, 7/24/1998

Tel Aviv Mayor Roni Milo has called upon the Israeli Knesset to endorse early Israeli elections due to the failure of the recent peace talks with the Palestinian government in implementing the second phase of redeployment in the West Bank.

Milo, who has announced his candidacy to become the next prime minister of Israel, stressed that the Middle East peace process has died in light of announcing the failure of talks. He added that Prime Minister Netanyahu has lost the confidence of all concerned and international sides due to his intransigence.

Milo warned Israel against the consequences of exploding conditions in the Palestinian areas. He said the only way to prevent the escalation of violence is to hold immediate elections so as to give the Israelis the chance to choose a new government.
