Saudi Arabia ready to deliver three killed Yemeni soldiers
Saudi Arabia-Yemen, Politics, 7/24/1998
Prince Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz, the Saudi minister of interior, stated that Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdul Qader Bajamal will pay a visit to Saudi Arabia to fulfill the invitation of his Saudi counterpart, Prince Saud al-Faisal, to lessen the tensions and resolve the disputes between the two countries.
Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh announced in a press conference yesterday in Sanaa that nine Saudi marine forces launched an attack on al-Dowaima Island affiliated to Maidi governorate on the Red Sea, due to which three Yemenis were killed and another nine were injured.
In a press conference on Thursday evening, Prince Nayef stated that the Yemeni forces opened fire on the Saudi forces, which were forced to return this fire in self-defense, adding that three Yemeni soldiers were killed and an officer was captured.
He said, "Saudi Arabia is ready to deliver the three corpses at any time," as well as to release a captured officer.
Prince Nayef also spoke on the telephone with his Yemeni counterpart, Hussein Arab, in which he congratulated the latter for his escape of the ambush planted for an official Yemeni delegation by tribesmen. The Saudi Press Agency said the prince asked about the health conditions of the wounded people who were injured as a result of the attack, which took place in al-Jawf province, north of Sanaa.
