Ruling party in Tunisia holds conference
Tunisia, Politics, 7/24/1998

The ruling Constitutional Democratic Rally Party in Tunisia is getting ready to hold its annual conference at the end of the current month and at the beginning of August under the slogan "The Privilege," according to a decision from the council of the party's leaders under the chairmanship of Zein El-Abidin Ben Ali, the Tunisian president and the party's chairman.

The 200 members of the party's central committee, 1/3 of whom are from youths and women, were elected at the beginning of July.

The party has previously convened two conferences, the first in 1988 under the slogan "The Rescue" after Ben Ali assumed power on November 7, 1987 by toppling El-Mobib Bou Rekaiba, and the second conference was held in 1993 under the slogan "The Persistency."

This year's conference will discuss the challenges the coming century is expected to present to Tunis.
