Jordan airport to allow easy travel to Israel
Jordan-Israel, Economics, 7/22/1998

The Jordanian Civil Aviation Department on Tuesday issued a statement saying that Jordanian and Israeli officials met on Monday in Amman. They agreed to take new measures permitting international visitors who arrive at the Jordanian Aqaba airport on the Red Sea to visit any other cities in the two countries.

This new measure is in the context of developing the Aqaba Airport agreement signed in 1997. The original agreement only permitted passengers heading to Eilat in Israel to leave from the airport.

The statement elaborated that "heated debates were held" prior to the agreement to convince Israelis that passengers of various nationalities are not dangerous to the security of Israel. It added that Jordan does not only seek to get more money but to encourage the international visitors to see Jordan."
