Moroccan opposition attacks Youssoufi government for doing nothing
Morocco, Politics, 7/22/1998
The secretary-general of the opposition Popular Movement, Mohamed Laenser, accused Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi of ambiguity and ignoring important issues on the public agenda. He also said that the current government has not achieved anything, so the opposition cannot either object to it or present alternatives, considering that what was achieved till now is an expansion of what was determined during the former government.
He added that the government is not clear in its direction, and the procedures upon which the governmental programs have concentrated, such as planning and specifying taxes and supporting the role of the budget in combating the gaps in the income levels and supporting the governorates.
He said that the budget project did not include any suggestions to be implemented and did not include procedures for change, as was stated by El-Youssefi government.
Laenser called on Youssoufi's government to take tangible measures for special concern with the English language, because King Hassan II has decided on a plan to give this language a more prominent position in information and the educational curriculum, and he said that these procedures have a great importance so the speakers of this language might not feel any danger that it will be marginalized.
