Tunisian mediation between Morocco and Algeria.
Tunisia-Maghreb, Politics, 7/22/1998
Tunisian sources said that Tunisia will launch a mediation effort between Morocco and Algeria to ease the disputes between them and facilitate the return of normal relations within the context of the talks held recently in Tunisia, between Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi and high-ranking Tunisian officials in the high joint committee's meetings.
The sources said that the Tunisian mediation will take advantage of its previous success with Libya and Mauritania on the occasion of the formal visit paid by President Maaouya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya of Mauritania.
It is believed that the meetings of the coming session of the Algerian - Tunisian high joint committee are expected to be a good occasion and a chance to rectify the atmospheres between the North African countries.
Algeria had stated this week that no mediation is needed between the two countries as direct lines of communications between them are available.
