Tehran mayor's trail to continue tomorrow
Iran, Judicial, 7/22/1998
The Iranian court in Tehran is due to issue its judgment on Thursday in the case of Tehran Mayor Gholamhossein Karbaschi, who is accused of corruption.
Karbaschi's lawyer, Bahman Kishorkhy, said that the court's head, Hogaa El-Islam Hussien, has made his decision, but he is waiting for Thursday in order to announce his judgment in a press conference.
Kishorkhy stated that he does not know anything about the judgment, clarifying that he is expecting Karbaschi to be acquitted.
During the final session, the judge announced on July 17 that he would declare his judgment within 10 days which is the time span dictated by law. The trail lead to a confrontation between the Iranian president's followers, which include Karbaschi, and the judicial authority, which is close to the conservatives.
Karbaschi was accused of corruption and mismanagement, as well as embezzling funds for political purposes during the nine years he has spent as the Mayor of Tehran.
