Kuwait says Iraqis' hunger is result of Iraqi system
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 7/22/1998

The Kuwaiti Nation's Council decided to establish an awarness program that will keep the issue of the 620 Kuwaitis held in Iraqi prisons or missing since the Iraqi occupation of on August 2, 1990.

The head of the committee dealing with this issue in the Kuwaiti parliament, deputy Ahmed Baker, stated, "Arab and Gulf communications are 'weak' concerning the coordination in the humanitarian issues," implying a lack of concern for human rights.

Iraq has denied the charge that it is holding any Kuwaitis and said that Kuwait uses this issue to keep the sanctions on Iraq, and keep Iraq isolated.

Baker said, "The Arab nations are sentimental, and the Iraqi regime resorts to the issue of hunger to which the Iraqi people are exposed to because of (Saddam Hussein's) system," clarifying that Kuwait will annually send a convoy for the Iraqi refugees in Iran.
