A new ambassador for Iran in Damascus
Syria-Iran, Politics, 7/21/1998

Iranian diplomatic sources said that Hussein Sheikholeslam will arrive today in Damascus to occupy the post of his country's ambassador in Damascus following Sheikh Hassan Ekhteri, who has begun his job as an official dealing with international relations at the bureau of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the spiritual leader of the Iranian revolution.

Sheikholeslam has occupied the post of assistant foreign minister for Arab-African affairs in Iran for 17 years.

Syrian sources said that president Mohammed Khatami received Sheikholeslam late last week, offering the new ambassador his instructions for his post, as President Khatami assured the importance of relations between the two countries.

Then he called the ambassador to exert all his efforts to strengthening the two countries' relations more then before.
