Israel, Jordan boost civil aviation cooperation
Regional-Israel, Politics, 7/21/1998

Director general of the Israeli Communications Ministry, who is also chairman of the Israeli Civil Aviation Commission, arrived yesterday in Amman in the course of bilateral cooperation agreements signed between the two sides. Talks are expected to deal with issues surrounding organizing flights taking off from Israeli airports toward the south via Jordan.

Israeli sources said such meetings fall in the course of normalization and coordination attempts made by Jordan and Israel, especially in civil aviation, Israeli radio reported.

Elsewhere, an Israeli spokesman yesterday stated that one Israeli soldier was killed today during the Israeli military maneuvers conducted by Israeli troops in the occupied Golan Heights. Israeli radio said the soldier was hit in the head during these maneuvers in Hermoun mount and was killed immediately.

In another development, the Turkish daily Hurriet reported today that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will visit Turkey this year. The paper quoted the Israeli ambassador to Turkey, Uri Barnar, as saying in a statement to the paper that Israel is also preparing to receive the Turkish Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz. Yilmaz is expected to visit Israel at the beginning of November, 1998.

Meanwhile, Israeli Labor Party chairman Ehud Barak met today with the US ambassador to Israel, Edward Walker. Israeli radio reported that Barak and Walker exchanged views on results of one week of intensive contacts, held separately with the Israeli and Palestinian sides on bilateral negotiations.
