Meguid to tour European states
Regional-European Union, Politics, 7/20/1998

The secretary-general of the Arab League [AL], Esmat Abdul Meguid, today starts a six-day European tour. The tour will cover current European Union president Austria and Poland. The visits come at the invitation of the two countries' foreign ministers.

The AL chief will first visit Austria for three days, during which he will discuss with its chancellor, foreign minister and parliament speaker regional and international issues of mutual concern.

He added that the current impasse in the Middle East and the role played by Europe in reviving the peace process, due to Netanyahu's policy will be discussed with Austrian officials. He added that Arab-Austrian relations and means of boosting them as well as Arab-European relations and matters pertaining to European-Mediterranean partnership will be discussed.

Abdul Meguid added that during his visit to Poland he will discuss with Polish officials the situation in the Middle East, including the peace process.
