Eleven massacred fifteen from army dead in Algeria

Gunmen in Algeria on Saturday night killed 11 citizens in Rabayeha town in al- Medea province, 90 km south of the capital, Algiers.

A statement released by the Algerian security forces on Sunday said that immediately following the new massacre, the Algerian security forces started a mopping up operation in the area in search of the killers.

The Algerian daily al-Aseel said that 15 Algerian army members were killed and other 20 were wounded during an attack launched on Friday against a military barrack in a mountain in al-Shalf province. The paper noted that three armed men were also killed during the confrontation.

Algerian security forces and the army have killed 20 gunmen during the two past days during inspections and mopping-up operations carried out by Algerian forces in al-Maseila and al-Shalaf provinces. The Algerian al-Khabar and Liberte dailies added today that army forces are still besieging 10 gunmen in Tamseh district. The gunmen include the prince of the area, "Abu al-Abbas," the report said

Meanwhile, the Algerian French daily al-Watan said today that two Algerian citizens were wounded following two explosions in Medea province on Sunday.
