Kuwaiti readiness for rapprochement with Jordan
Kuwait-Jordan, Politics, 7/17/1998
A Jordanian official source said that Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah sent a message on Thursday to his Jordanian counterpart, Prince Hassan Bin Talal, who is acting on behalf of King Hussein. The message stressed Kuwait's readiness to maintain rapprochement with Jordan.
The message, which was quoted by the Jordanian news agency Petra, said that "continued contacts and positive developments between our two countries, coordinating stances in Arab and international circles would accelerate the process of strengthening our bilateral relations for joint cooperation."
The message stressed Kuwait's readiness to rebuild Arab solidarity on solid grounds so as to avoid "personal ambitions and individual inclinations."
Relations between the two states deteriorated following the Iraqi forces' invasion of Kuwait in August 1990. Kuwait minimized its diplomatic presence in Amman to the charge d'affairs level. It did approve the Jordanian request to reopen its embassy in the Kuwaiti capital, as ties between the two have begun to warm in recent months.
