Kuwait confirms right to detain ship penetrating its regional waters
Kuwait-Gulf, Politics, 7/15/1998

Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber said that its is his country's right to hold any ship that enters its territorial waters.

Sheikh Sabah's declaration came in reply to a reporter's question concerning Kuwait's holding of United Arab Emirates ships for violating the embargo imposed against Iraq.

The Kuwait Coast Guard frustrated an attempt made by two ships carrying a license from Emirates to break the international embargo imposed on Iraq as they attempted to enter Kuwaiti regional waters to access Iraqi waters. These ships were carrying foodstuffs to Iraq.
