Russian delegation to Sanaa today
Yemen-Russia, Economics, 7/15/1998
A governmental delegation from the Russian Federation is arriving today in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, headed by the head of the external debt department in the Russian Ministry of Finance, Semid Nof, for a three-day visit to Yemen.
A Yemeni official said that the Russian delegation will hold talks with experts and officials in the Ministry of Finance and the Yemeni Central Bank concerning settling the Yemeni debts due to Russia according to the restructuring agreement that took place in last year with the Paris Club.
Total Yemeni debts to Russia reach $6.7 billion, mostly as a result of weapons purchases and financing for electricity and petroleum projects, about which the South Yemeni side contracted Russia before South and North Yemen united in 1990.
