King Hussein confers with Barak, heads to US for medical tests
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 7/15/1998

King Hussein of Jordan on Tuesday held talks in Amman with the chairman of the Israeli Labor Party, Ehud Barak. The talks dealt with the Middle East peace process.

Barak arrived in Amman earlier in the day on a several-hour visit. He was accompanied by members of the Israeli Knesset Avraham Shochat, Avraham Yechezkel and Saleh Tarif. Earlier, Jordanian Crown Prince Hassan met with Barak, Israeli radio reported.

Later in the day King Hussein headed for the US to undergo medical tests in one of its hospitals for a fever. A high-ranking Jordanian official said that King Hussein was admitted to hospital in Amman after his temperature increased. The official added that the King's doctors recommended that he go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for follow-up medical tests.

In August 1992 the King underwent at the same clinic surgery to remove his left kidney, where cancer cells were discovered.
