Calm restored in Yemen

A Yemeni official confirmed that the situation has returned to normal after the recent disturbances caused by increases in prices on commodities such as food and gas.

General Hussein Mohammed Arab, the Yemeni minister of interior, described the riots that took place in Yemen as a normal matter in a democratic country towards economic issues that affect the lives of citizens.

Arab said that some protesters who he described as "corrupters who attempted to take advantage of the protest marches to take vandalistic actions aimed at destroying the Yemeni achievements."

The Yemeni minister also accused some foreign countries of being behind these disturbances.

On the other hand, Sheikh Abdallah al-Ahmar, head of the Yemeni council of deputies, arrived in Havana, Cuba's capital, for a five-day visit including talks with the Cuban ministers of health, foreign investment and external relations.
