Egypt expels Israeli diplomat under spying charges
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 7/14/1998
The Israeli daily Maariv said on Monday that the Egyptian authorities have expelled an Israeli diplomat under charges of spying against Egypt in favor of Israel. The paper did not report the name of the diplomat nor his position or his task.
The paper confined itself to saying the Israeli diplomat has been involved in a spying case in Egypt.
Israeli spy Azam Azam was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment after being convicted by an Egyptian court for spying on Egyptian security firms for the interest of Israel. All pressures exerted on Egypt to release convicted spy Azam Azam have met with failure.
